I live in Monaco which is a great place to be for ship spotting as its port is a popular stop for ships doing the Mediterranean. Queen Victoria is a regular visitor and become quite popular with the locals. I am always looking forward to her visits and try to be out at the harbour to get a glimpse of her. Ships have souls and personalities and Vickie has a very special one.
Vickie came to Monaco to check on the new Princess. This was the secret reason of her all day visit this past Friday. She likes to keep tabs on her peers.
Vickie loves Monaco. She has got some sort of addiction for the Principality. She is a Royal. She wants to be with Princes and Princesses in her own right. Also she wanted to secure her invitation to the royal wedding official festivities next year in July.
Each of her visits is always fun and exciting. She loves to dwarf the so-called mega-yachts in the harbour. She makes fun of them. She kept laughing at the Atlantis II the Niarchos family yacht. Oh, that little floating matchbox… she said!
As she was leaving harbour she confided to me that she is not into pasta and pizza at all. Oh… that’s peasant food she said. I just hate it! Livorno and Civitavecchia are so boring! Going to Italy was a chore.
She really did not want to leave. Monte Carlo… Caviar and champagne! Before setting sail, she sounded her horn three times. No… I don’t want to go! She was moving so slowly.
On her way out, she was blinking… she sent some little flashes of light: I will be back soon before the end of the year she said… more than one time!
I took more photos and videos which you can view in the Cunard Queens Member’s Gallery and on YouTube. Queen Mary 2 will be here in September and then Queen Elizabeth in October. If all goes well, she will be docked. I am not going to miss out on that. This place is keeping me busy.
